Larry Anderson

Larry O. Anderson, 83, of Fort Dodge, IA, died November 24, 2023, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. A visitation will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1436 21st Avenue North, Fort Dodge, on Saturday, December 9, at 10 a.m. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Pastors Lyle Hansen and Nicholas Thackery will officiate.

Larry Oliver Anderson, son of Oliver and Lillian (Daniels) Anderson, was born April 1, 1940, on a farm near Fort Dodge. He attended grade school at the Clayworks country school and graduated from Callender High School in 1958. Besides working on the farm where he grew up, his first job was working at Johnston Clayworks. He later worked at Gus Glaser Meats and while working there he started Larry O. Anderson Construction. Larry and his construction crew remodeled and built new homes in Fort Dodge and the surrounding counties. They also framed houses for U.S. Homes and Amwood Homes, Inc. and he later became a sales manager for Amwood Homes.

On December 4, 1976, Larry married Jackie Laird at the Kalo Congregational Church in Kalo, IA. The couple lived in Fort Dodge until 1983 when they moved to Colorado Springs, CO. In 1985, they moved to Janesville, WI, and Larry worked for Amwood Homes, Inc. until he retired in 2002. Larry and Jackie moved back to Fort Dodge in 2005 to a home in the Knollcrest Addition where he and his construction crew had built several new homes during the 1970s.

Larry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jackie; daughters, Shelly (Mark) Wheaton, Janesville, WI; Susette (Terry) Tracy, West Des Moines, IA; sons, Sean (Sandy) Anderson, Riggins, ID, and Brad (Tiffany) Clabaugh of Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly O'Hearn, Lehigh, IA; Betty (Mark) Andersen, Colorado Springs, CO; Louise Anderson, Minneapolis, MN; Karen (Lyle) Roberts, Callender, IA; Kristi Anderson-Richardson (Phil), Lehigh, IA; and his beloved dogs, Mollie and Maggie. He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Wayne and Adeline Laird; sister-in-law, Jana Danielson; and brothers-in-law, Jack O'Hearn, Godfrey Peterson, and Stan Bard.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
