SHERWYN THORSON

Sherwyn Arthur Thorson, age 75, died peacefully April 6 at his home in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Services will be held at St. Olaf Lutheran Church at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 9, where he was a lifetime member and a charter member of the “Ole’s.”

Sherwyn worked as a Marketing Manager for Holnam Cement following his athletic career and above all was a caring father, loving husband, brother, and friend to many. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and was an avid Indy race fan. He will be remembered as an outstanding athlete but also for a warm handshake, big smile and his gracious manner.

His nickname, “Thumper,” was coined in high school where he participated in football, wrestling and track at Fort Dodge Senior High. He went on to wrestle and play football for The University of Iowa. He continued his professional football career for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League.

Left to celebrate his life are his wife, Linda, son Tjeran (Julie Moser), daughter Joryn Thorson, grandchildren Lehr, Asle, Amelia, and Ayden. Also stepchildren Matt Reeck (Vickie), Chris Reeck (Jennifer), Natalie Mortensen (Brandon) and seven stepgrandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Ellen Onnen and Maurine (Gary) Timmer, sister in-law, Jane Thorson, and numerous family and friends.

Sherwyn was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Amelia Thorson, brother Jacob and his wife Ellen, brother Russell Thorson and brother in-law Dale Onnen.

In lieu of flowers, please direct memorial gifts to the family as they would like to establish a scholarship fund in Sherwyn Thorson’s name.
