Summerfest to bring live music to downtown FD

Local media company Beachlight Productions and The Better Way Project announce the inaugural Fort Dodge Summerfest, a two-day community event to be held in downtown Fort Dodge May 29-30. Fort Dodge Summerfest will include a series of live music performances, a full carnival presented by Scott Amusements, a vendor fair, food trucks, a free pancake breakfast on Saturday morning, and a laser show after dark on Saturday night. DAYTON — The 15th annual Dayton Old Engine Day & Car Show will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 23 in Oak Park. It will feature antique tractors, old engines, classic cars, a citywide garage sale and food. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 participants in the car show. Derailment reported in FD

Four train cars went off the tracks in a Fort Dodge railyard early Thursday morning. The derailment occurred in an area of the Canadian National Railway yard south of Second Avenue South. There were no reports of injuries, leaks or fires, according to Michelle Hannan, a spokeswoman for the railroad. She added that no grade crossings were blocked. The derailed cars have been removed and the tracks appeared to be repaired on Friday. The cause of the derailment remains under investigation by the railroad, according to Hannan.
