Wright County has received a disaster emergency proclamation from Gov. Kim Reynolds following the flash flooding on July 7. The governor’s proclamation allows state resources to be utilized to respond and recover from the effects of the severe weather. As part of this proclamation, grants of up to $5,000 are available for households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. CEDAR RAPIDS — The following students were named to Mount Mercy University’s Spring 2024 Dean’s List: Leah Sanck, of Clare, and Quinn Swift, of Emmetsburg. Students with a semester grade-point average of 3.60 or better and who are graded for six or more semester hours are eligible for inclusion on the Dean’s List.
CALLENDER — The City of Callender has been placed on a boil advisory as of Monday evening. According to the City, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources recommended a water boil advisory after a well pipe was found to be leaking. Until the pipe is fixed, a backup well is being used. The boil advisory has been placed out of an abundance of caution.
A man stands accused of purloining pigs, according to court records. Corey E. Goeders, 26, of Pocahontas, is accused of stealing hogs belonging to Hanor Family of Companies, of Webster City, and selling them to other pork producers, according to criminal complaints filed against him. In those criminal complaints, Webster County sheriff’s deputies charged Goeders with stealing 54 hogs valued at $10,785 from a facility at 2752 Garfield Ave on June 20, 2023. Deputies also charged him with stealing 46 hogs valued at $6,453 from a facility at 2651 Indiana Ave. on Nov. 15, ...
The S.A.L.T. Center and First Baptist Church will hold an open house for the center’s first year anniversary from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the center, 28 N. 10th St. The open house will offer tours of the center, refreshments, games and testimonials from people who have been helped. The S.A.L.T. Center is a warming and cooling drop in center and also offers a variety of services for clients.
