Root beer floats to support RC depot

ROCKWELL CITY — Root beer floats will be offered on Tuesday to help pay for the upkeep of the Milwaukee Depot in Rockwell City. Old-fashioned root beer floats will be served from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 230 Fourth St. They will be served before, during and after the Calhoun County Expo parade. Freewill donations will be accepted to support the care of the depot, which was built in 1899.

Street closure, water shut off set for MLK Drive

Part of Martin Luther King Drive will be closed beginning Monday and water service to some of the surrounding area will be shut off on Wednesday, according to an announcement from the Public Works Department. Martin Luther King Drive will be closed between Third and Sixth avenues north. Water will be turned off at 5 a.m. Wednesday and will remain off until late morning. Fire damages outside wall of house

A fire scorched an exterior wall of a Fort Dodge home Thursday afternoon. The fire at 1122 S. 23rd St. was reported at about 2:10 p.m. Fire Department Lt. Jon Schreck said the fire started in a trash can and spread up the south wall of the house. The residents were able to put out much of the fire before firefighters arrived. Schreck said the damage was confined to the exterior of the house. Firefighters tore down melted siding to make sure nothing was smoldering beneath it.

Blanden closed Thursday for the Fourth

The Blanden Memorial Art Museum, 920 Third Ave. S., will be closed on Thursday in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Normal museum hours will resume on Friday.
