A man charged with cutting another man with a knife during a June altercation in downtown Fort Dodge has pleaded guilty.
Jeffery O. Holland.,60, of Fort Dodge, received a two year sentence, but it was suspended, according to court records. That means he will not serve any time behind bars, apart from the time he served when he was first arrested.
The incident occurred at 4:20 p.m. June 20 in an alley in the 900 block of First Avenue North. According to the criminal complaint filed against him by Fort Dodge police, Holland "assaulted the victim by slashing/stabbing him with a knife, causing injuries to the hand, chest and abdomen."
The victim was treated at the scene by Fort Dodge Fire Department paramedics.
Holland was arrested and charged with assault while displaying a dangerous weapon.
Holland's trial was to begin Tuesday. But instead of going to trial, he pleaded guilty to the charge.
In response to his plea, District Court Judge Adria Kester issued a two-year suspended sentence. She also levied an $855 fine, but suspended it as well.
If Holland is convicted of another crime, the suspended sentence and fine may be imposed.
