A series of updated codes that will impact future construction in Fort Dodge were advanced by the City Council Monday. The council approved the second readings of the mechanical, fuel gas, electrical and plumbing codes. They must be approved once more to become law.
SAC CITY — A woman was found dead inside a vehicle in the North Raccoon River near Sac City Friday morning, according to the Sac County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies identified her as Samantha F. Trimpe, 30, of Breda. No foul play is suspected in the incident, according to the Sheriff’s Office. At 10:18 a.m. Friday an overturned vehicle was reported in the North Raccoon River near Hagge Park. A man suffering from a gunshot wound was reported in Fort Dodge Wednesday evening. The incident was reported at 7:30 p.m. in the 500 block of South 19th Street, where the man was found in a van. He was treated at the scene and transported to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center. The incident remains under investigation by Fort Dodge police. South 19th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues south was closed to traffic while police and firefighters worked at the scene.
The Friends of the Library will host a special adventure show featuring the Feller Dinosaur Company at 10 a.m. today at the library, 424 Central Ave. Life-size dinosaurs will be visiting while children learn about these magnificent prehistoric creatures. DAYTON — A sinkhole in the City of Dayton has been repaired less than 48 hours after it was discovered. On Sunday, the City of Dayton posted on social media that a “sinkhole” was discovered on First Avenue Southwest between Eighth and Ninth Streets Southwest. Barricades were placed around the hole with the city stating that they were “not sure how large it is,” and asking residents to avoid the area. The 14th Annual Socks for the Sole sock drive has begun. The community’s help is being sought to help local kids step into the school year in new socks. The Community Health Center of Fort Dodge and Shimkat Motor Co. have once again teamed up to collect new socks to give to kids before the start of the school year.
