Nominate someone for Hometown Pride

Do you know someone who has gone above and beyond for their community? Nominate them for The Messenger’s 2025 Hometown Pride publication. Email your nominations to bshea@messengernews.net. Please include the name, hometown and contact information for the nominee, as well as why you are nominating them. Nominees can be individuals as well as groups or organizations. The Messenger’s coverage area includes Calhoun, Hamilton, Humboldt, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Sac, Webster and Wright counties. Nominations can be anonymous.

Fundraiser for Youth Shelter Care is Thursday

A special event Thursday evening will raise money for the construction of a recreation room/gym for Youth Shelter Care of North Central Iowa Inc. The Team Up For Our Youth Fundraiser, conducted by Fort Dodge Study Club, will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Laramar Ballroom, 710 First Ave. N. Controlled burns planned at Brushy

LEHIGH — Prescribed burning will be conducted in Brushy Creek State Recreation Area through May, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Detailed burn plans are created for each area, and safety is always the No. 1 consideration in the timing of each burn, the department reported. Fire is a land management tool that is used to improve wildlife habitat, control invasive plant species, restore and maintain native plant communities and reduce wildfire potential. OneVision Thrift Store, 12 N. 25th St., is holding a launch party for its new ValueQuest Rewards Club from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 5. There will be door prizes, promotional gifts, food and drinks and members can earn double loyalty points.

Saturday in Service is April 12

Trinity United Methodist Church, 838 N. 25th St., is hosting Saturday in Service from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 12. Those attending will weave sleeping mats out of plastic grocery bags for unhoused and displaced persons, sew reusable feminine hygiene pads and school bags, and collect medical equipment. There will be crafts for children. All supplies are provided. Lunch is included and there is no cost. Everyone is welcome.
