Grace Lutheran Church to hold bake sale, rummage sale Friday and Saturday

Grace Lutheran Church, 211 S. Ninth St., will hold its annual rummage sale, bake sale, lunch and silent auction from noon to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The Grace Cafe will be serving sloppy joes, chips, homemade pie, and a drink in the main level Fireside Room. On Saturday, there will be a $2 bag sale from 10 a.m. to noon. All proceeds go to education scholarships for companion congregation students in Matembwe Tanzania, Lutheran Disaster Response, the Lord’s Cupboard and SALT Center.

Medical issue caused death of man found in Fort Dodge

A deceased man was found behind some commercial buildings near Fifth Avenue South and 29th Street early Monday afternoon. A medical issue caused the man’s death, according to Fort Dodge Police Chief Dennis Quinn. At about 1:15 p.m., the police and fire departments were dispatched to an area just northeast of the intersection, between a store and a hotel, for a report of a man who was unresponsive. Otho Fireman’s Ball set for Saturday

The 23rd annual Otho Fireman’s Ball will be held Saturday at the Webster County Fairgrounds. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under. Tickets can be bought at the door or in advance from Fire Department members. A meal will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. by Lidderdale Country Store. The menu is roast beef, chicken and rice, ham balls, green beans, baked beans, macaroni and cheese and taco salad. A live auction will begin at 6 p.m. There will also be a gun raffle, kids games, 50/50 tickets, and a grocery raffle. DJ Duane Murley will provide music until midnight.

FD Police Department adds new officer

A new officer has been added to the Fort Dodge Police Department. Chris Rodriguez-Colin was introduced to the City Council Monday evening. He is from Ankeny. He earned an associate degree in criminal justice from Des Moines Area Community College. He most recently worked as a security officer at the Prairie Meadows Casino, Race Track & Hotel in Altoona.

Payment for marsh project approved

The Webster County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a change order for $20,188.25 to Empire Excavation, of Arthur, for the Meier Marsh Wetland & Oxbow Restoration project. “This is a continuation of the water quality project that we’re working on with IDALS,” said Webster County Conservation Director Matt Cosgrove. “This was scheduled to be concluded last October, but obviously with the wet conditions the project continues on. FD man accused of torching own house

A Fort Dodge man has been arrested and charged with setting a fire in his own home in February. Josh D. Wilson, 50, of 221 S. Fourth St., was arrested by Fort Dodge police on Tuesday and charged with second-degree arson, according to court records. In the criminal complaint filed against him, police wrote that sometime between 3 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Feb. 10, Wilson deliberately started a fire in the house.
