Cheryl Fleming benefit set for Sunday

A benefit for Cheryl Fleming is set for 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Laramar Ballroom, 710 First Ave. N. Fleming is undergoing treatment for ALS, which is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing them to die. There is no known cure for this disease. The event will include a meal for a freewill donation, bake sale, live auction, silent auction and 50/50 raffle. Part of Second Avenue North to be closed for storm sewer work

Second Avenue North between Martin Luther King Drive and North 25th Street will be closed Monday and will remain closed all week. City crews will be replacing four storm sewer intakes and two water main valves.

Yard waste collections to resume

Curbside collection of yard waste from Fort Dodge city sanitation customers will begin Friday, according to an announcement from the city. To schedule a pickup, residents should text ‘Yard Waste” to 515-408-9888. Leaves, grass clippings and other yard waste must be in brown paper bags with orange yard waste stickers on them. The stickers are available at the utility billing office in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.

Spring 2026 Clean-Off Week begins today for Fort Dodge city cemeteries

As we prepare our city cemeteries for the spring season, all flowers and decorations will be respectfully removed and discarded during Clean-Off Week. Fort Dodge city yard waste site to reopen

The Fort Dodge Public Works Department compost site at the central garage, 3001 Eighth Ave. S., will open to city sanitation customers on Saturday. These are the guidelines for the compost site: • Access is limited to city residents receiving garbage service. • Securely cover yard waste in trucks or trailers with a tarp. • Separate tree branches from leaves and grass clippings. Branches should be under 4 inches in diameter and 4 feet long. The site’s operating hours are 8 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

Iowa Scenic Views by Foot set for Saturday at the Fort Dodge Public Library

The Fort Dodge Public Library is hosting a free program presented by Tyler Sullivan from Iowa Scenic Views by Foot on Facebook at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Sullivan has been to nearly all Iowa counties, and has been to 1,300 cities across the state. He runs at least a mile in each community he visits and writes a poem for each county he visits. He has visited 500 Iowa museums in the last two years alone. Come and listen to his presentation and view pictures of his adventures across Iowa.
