City of Fort Dodge audit report released
Cornwell, Frideres, Maher & Associates, P.L.C., released an audit report this week on the City of Fort Dodge.
The city’s revenues totaled $81,955,523 for the year ended June 30, 2025, a 7.3% increase from the prior year. Expenses for the city’s operations for t he year ended June 30, 2025, totaled $101,942,877. The increase in revenue is primarily due to an increase in charges for services. The increase in expenses is primarily due to increased expenditures for capital projects and broadband utility.
Cornwell, Frideres, Maher & Associates, P.L.C., reported four findings related to the receipt and expenditure of taxpayer funds. The findings address issues such as a couple of functions over budget and deficit balance due to interfund loans. The company provided the city with recommendations to address the findings.
The City Council has a fiduciary responsibility to provide oversight of the city’s operations and financial transactions. Oversight is typically defined as the “watchful and responsible care” a governing body exercises in its fiduciary capacity.
