Fort Dodge offers yard waste options
Compost site to open Saturday
The yard waste compost site at the Fort Dodge Public Works Department central garage, 3001 Eighth Ave. S., will open Saturday for use by city residents.
This site is reserved for residential use only; commercial use is not permitted.
Access is restricted to city residents who get their garbage picked up by the Public Works Department.
Those who will bring yard waste to the site in pickups or trailers should ensure that they are securely covered with a tarp to prevent anything from falling out.
Tree branches must be separated from leaves and grass clippings. Branches should not be more than four inches in diameter or four feet in length.
The operating hours of the compost site are:
• 8 a.m. to noon Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
• 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
• Closed on Wednesdays and holidays.
Curbside collection of yard waste will begin Friday.
Requests for pickup of yard waste must be submitted by noon on Thursdays. Current sanitation customers can text “yard waste” to 515-408-9888 to request a pickup.
Yard waste should be placed in Kraft paper bags, with an orange city yard waste sticker attached. The bags should be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on the Friday of the collection. Yard waste in plastic bags will not be collected.
Tree branches must be bundled, with each bundle no larger than 18 inches in diameter and four feet in length. Orange yard waste stickers are required for each bundle.
Bags and bundles of branches should not weigh more than 50 pounds.
The yard waste stickers can be purchased at the utility billing counter in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.
