Trail, sports complex on agenda for FD council

A contract for building a new section of trail along North 22nd Street awaits action by the Fort Dodge City Council this evening. The council will meet at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.

It will consider awarding the contract for construction of the trail along the east side of North 22nd Street between 18th and 25th avenues north. It would be a 10-foot wide paved trail.

Vieth Construction Corp., of Cedar Falls, submitted the apparent low bid of about $892,000.

The city has a $500,000 grant from the state to help pay for it.

Also during the meeting, the council will consider the first reading of a zoning proposal that would allow for larger business signs along Fifth Avenue South.

The council will also consider hiring Snyder & Associates, of Ankeny, to design some updates to Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex.

The work will address Fenway Park, Wrigley Field, driveways and parking lots. The company will also examine options for the concession/restroom building at the center of the area known as the Mini Majors, so named because the surrounding ballfields are small replicas of Major League Baseball stadiums.

Starting at $4.94/week.
