A Fort Dodge man was seriously injured on Thursday morning when the semi truck he was driving rolled after being hit by another semi on U.S. Highway 20 near Xavier Avenue in eastern Webster County.

According to the crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, Martin Velazquez-Trujillo, of Denison, was driving eastbound on Highway 20 in a 2000 Mack semi truck when a front tire of the truck blew, causing him to lose control, crossing the median into the westbound traffic. Velazquez-Trujillo’s truck then struck the rear axle of a 2021 Freightliner semi driven by Richard Allen Aldrich, 58, of Fort Dodge, causing Aldrich’s truck to overturn.

The accident happened at about 10:25 a.m. on Thursday.

According to the crash report, Aldrich sustained serious injuries and was transported by air ambulance to a medical center in Des Moines. Velazquez-Trujillo was not injured in the accident.
