Supervisors adopt Comprehensive Plan
Future growth in Webster County will be guided by a document approved by the Board of Supervisors Tuesday.
The board voted to adopt the Webster County Comprehensive Plan 2043 to replace the 2008 Comprehensive Plan during its regular meeting.
In 2021, the board tasked the Planning and Zoning Commission to update the now-15-year-old Comprehensive Plan so it more aligns with the vision the county and community have for future development of Webster County.
Over the last 18 months, Planning and Zoning Administrator Jeff Johnson has worked with MSA Professional Services Inc., of Ankeny, to gather input from residents and other community stakeholders to use in drafting a new comprehensive plan.
The comprehensive plan covers everything from land use, to housing, to public infrastructure, to transportation, to economic development, to community character and more.
“It’s anticipating what the growth will look like, and what the future land use will grow into as things change throughout time,” Sarah Runkel, a planner with MSA, previously told The Messenger.
The Comprehensive Plan includes a transportation corridor plan and future land use plan. It will be a guiding source for an update of the Webster County Zoning Ordinance.
The plan is a “living document” and “a guide to the future,” Johnson told The Messenger during a May 29 open house for the draft plan.
A public hearing for residents to express their thoughts on the matter was held prior to the board voting to adopt the plan. No members of the public submitted written or oral comments.
The vote to adopt the plan was unanimous, with Supervisors Niki Conrad, Mark Campbell and Bob Thode voting in favor. Supervisors Nick Carlson and Austin Hayek were absent.
