Fort Dodge council to consider union contract

Wages, salaries and a new labor contract for some municipal employees are on the agenda for the Fort Dodge City Council tonight.

But before dealing with those matters, the council will be briefed on the impact of the May 30 deluge that dumped up to six inches of rain on the city.

The council’s work will begin at 5 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S., with a workshop on the storm.

At 6 p.m., the council’s regular business meeting will begin.

During that session, the elected officials will consider approving a new three-year contract with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, which represents public works, parks and forestry, and utility billing workers.

The contract is for the period beginning July 1 and ending June 30, 2026.

Employees covered by the contract will get a roughly 3 percent raise, plus a 2 percent cost of living adjustment on July 1, 2024.

The union approved the contract on May 24.

Also during Monday’s meeting, the council will consider updating the Municipal Code sections pertaining to administration and personnel. In addition, it will consider updating the master classification plan for job titles and pay grades.

Lastly, it will consider approving a wage schedule for non-union employees for the period beginning July 1 to June 30, 2025.

Starting at $4.94/week.
