Farmer’s Corner

Spring is finally here. The snow is melted and the ground is thawed out. The days are getting longer, the weather is warming up and flowers and trees are coming to life.

After a long, cold winter, our thoughts turn to fresh fruits and vegetables.

Sure, you can go to the store and buy them, but is it really the same as growing your own or going to your local farmer’s market?

As a consumer, is it important to you to be aware of where your food comes from? What if you could get acquainted with the very people who are producing the things you eat? You can have the chance to do that soon.

Saturday, June 10, marks the start of the 39th annual Fort Dodge Farmer’s Market.

Not only does this market have produce, but there will also be other items available, such as local honey, farm fresh eggs and baked goods as well.

If you are looking for a great gift (even if it’s to yourself), there will be fresh flowers, homemade bath products, hand-crafted signs, and much more on hand. And, don’t forget Pliner’s famous kettle korn!

This year, the market will be held at 11 N. 25th St., across from The Village General Store.

The market will run from June 10 through Oct. 14, on Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Anyone interested in being a vendor may contact Kendal Pliner at 515-570-0058 or Diane Peterson at 515-570-2443.

Starting at $4.94/week.
