Fort Dodge man charged in June assault

A Fort Dodge man has been charged with a series of felonies in connection with a June 20 assault in downtown Fort Dodge.

According to criminal complaints, on June 20 around 5:40 p.m., Joseph Ryan Passow, 30, got into the victim’s vehicle in the 1000 block of Central Avenue and assaulted him with “bladed weapons.”

Passow continued to assault the victim outside the vehicle, causing “severe lacerations” across the victim’s back and legs. A warrant for Passow’s arrest was issued on June 28, and he was arrested on Thursday morning.

Passow is charged with first-degree burglary, a Class B felony; assault while participating in a felony, a Class D felony; willful injury causing bodily injury, a Class D felony; going armed with intent, a Class D felony; and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Passow had his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court on Thursday morning. He appeared without counsel and did not request a court-appointed attorney.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 15.

Passow is being held at the Webster County Jail on a $42,000 cash bond.
