FDPD Capt. Dennis Quinn carries a bag out from the scene of a stand-off at 1727 Third Ave. N. on Friday. Officers were called to the residence on a report of a suicidal male armed with a firearm. After a two-hour-long stand-off, the man was taken into custody without further incident.

A nearly two-hour-long standoff at a home near Reynolds Park ended without any further incident on Friday.

A man involved in the incident, Demario Brown, 27, of Fort Dodge, was arrested and charged with domestic abuse assault while displaying a weapon, police reported.

Officers were called to 1727 Third Ave. N. at 11:17 a.m. for a report of a suicidal male and information provided indicated that he was likely armed with a firearm and may have threatened another individual in the residence, according to the Fort Dodge Police Department.

Officers arrived and found the man had entered a bedroom and refused to come out. Officers on scene communicated with his family members, who assisted in reaching a resolution.

After an hour and a half of communications, the man exited the bedroom without incident shortly before 1 p.m. He was then transported to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center. No injuries were reported.

Officers did recover a firearm at the scene.

Late Friday afternoon, after officers learned more about the events that led up to their response to the home, Brown was arrested.

The Webster County Sheriff’s Office and Fort Dodge Fire Department assisted on scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
