Arrest made in Aug. 22 shots fired incident
An arrest has been made in connection with the shots fired incident in Fort Dodge on the afternoon of Aug. 22.
On Aug. 22, around 2 p.m.. the Webster County Telecommunications Center received information of shots being fired at an occupied vehicle near the intersection of Fifth Avenue South and South 21st Street.
The information indicated that shots were being fired from a vehicle in the direction of another vehicle while eastbound on Fifth Avenue South. As officers were responding, the suspect vehicle was described as fleeing the area to the east. The vehicle being shot at also fled the area. A short time later, officers located the victim’s vehicle which had sustained damage consistent with being shot.
No individuals had been struck by the gunfire. During the initial investigation, officers were able to obtain a description of the suspect vehicle. At approximately 5:30 p.m. Aug. 22., officers located the suspect vehicle in the 400 block of North 19th Street. This vehicle was held as evidence in the investigation.
After further investigation, Fort Dodge Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division determined a timeline of the events and were able to identify a suspect.
It was discovered that the suspect had likely fled the state and investigators identified a possible location of the suspect to be an apartment complex in Quincy, Illinois.
The Fort Dodge Police Department began working with the Quincy Police Department. On Tuesday at approximately 6:30 p.m.. officers with the Quincy Police Department observed the suspect at the apartment complex and took him into custody.
The suspect is 19-year-old Josh Hanrahan of Fort Dodge, according to police. Hanrahan is currently being held in the Adams County, Illinois. Jail for outstanding arrest warrants out of Illinois. As it relates to the shots fired incident on Aug. 22, police reported that Hanrahan is charged with the following:
• Intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony
• Possession of a firearm as a felon, a Class D felony
• Going armed with intent, a Class D felony
• Violation of probation — original charge of carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor
Hanrahan will appear in Webster County Magistrate Court at a later date.
