Fort Dodge police are on scene between 12th Street and Eighth Street along Fifth Avenue South after the driver of an SUV apparently crashed, knocking down a power line before coming to rest against a building.

The crash appeared to be the result of a police chase, according to a Messenger reporter at the scene.

The Messenger reporter said a suspect appears to still be in the vehicle.

Both lanes of traffic along Fifth Avenue South between 12th Street and Eighth Street are closed.

The Fort Dodge Police Department, Fort Dodge Fire Department and Iowa State Patrol are on scene.

A suspect is in handcuffs at the scene.
