Body found in Sac County field
Speculation centers on man missing since November
SAC CITY — A body was found in a Sac County field Wednesday afternoon, touching off speculation that a man missing since last November had been found.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety has not confirmed that the remains are those of David Schultz, 53, of Lake View. However, in a statement released Wednesday evening the department confirmed that the body was found near where his semi-trailer was found on Nov. 21, 2023.
Schultz was reported missing on that date after he did not deliver a truckload of pigs to a buying station near Sac City as planned.
He left Lake View on the night of Nov. 20, 2023, to pick up the pigs at a location near Eagle Grove. He left that site at 10:50 p.m. Nov. 20.
Security camera images showed Schultz was at the Marker 126 travel center on U.S. Highway 20 east of Fort Dodge at 11:15 p.m. Nov. 20.
At about 3 p.m. Nov. 21, his truck was found near Union Avenue and 190th Street. Data from his phone indicated that the truck had been there since 12:40 a.m. that day.
A massive search for Schultz was launched, but it was unsuccessful.
At 2 p,m. Wednesday, the Sac County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a man reporting that he had found a body in his field. That field is along Union Avenue between 190th and 200th streets.
The body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for an autopsy.
