POCAHONTAS — The annual Pocahontas Art Walk has been renamed to honor co-founder Leonard Olson, who died October 1, 2019, after an extensive illness.

It’s now “Art Walk Olson.”

The event features artists from Iowa and Minnesota that have a connection to Pocahontas.

It will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

According to the Pocahontas Chamber of Commerce, Olson founded the walk in 2014 with Brian Dewey. Olson was the owner of the Kaleidoscope Factory and a proponent of the “experience economy.” Olson’s concept was that by small communities providing visitors with an experience to enjoy, they would be more likely to visit, make purchases while there and thus help the local economy maintain viability and grow.

His shop will be open in his memory during the walk.

Some of the new exhibitors this year include the Jeno Collective, a photography company from Minneapolis; Goodness From the Goat, a soap and lotion company from Lytton; along with Bonnie Olson and Jenice Moore, who produce stained-glass artwork. Pocahontas painter Jerry Reiter will also have his oil paintings available.

The Art Walk Olson takes place in downtown Pocahontas.
