McIntyre named ICCAC Athlete of Year

George McIntyre continues to add to his resume.

The Iowa Central baseball standout was recently named the ICCAC Male Student-Athlete of the Year in addition to his ICCAC Div. II Baseball Player of the Year award.

McIntyre is the first baseball player in the conference to win the student-athlete of the year award, and the first Triton to claim it since 2018 when football player Spencer Cuvelier was named.

“George is a leader by example who brings energy, accountability and professionalism to the program each day,” Iowa Central Athletic Director Guy Horn said. “His teammates respect him for his work ethic and selflessness, while coaches admire his maturity, coachability and dedication to team success.

“Beyond athletics, George represents the values of the ICCAC and Iowa Central with class and integrity. He carries himself with humility and professionalism, and he consistently demonstrates the qualities expected of a top collegiate student-athlete.”

McIntyre hits leadoff for Iowa Central, who won the Region 11 Tournament title and claimed a repeat bid to the NJCAA World Series by winning the North Plains District.

The sophomore leads all NJCAA Div. II players with a .495 batting average and 30 home runs, while leading all of NJCAA with 132 runs, 103 hits, 215 total bases and a 1.034 slugging percentage.

He was also named first team academic all-region and third team academic All-American.

Reggi Spotts from North Iowa Area was named the ICCAC Female Student-Athlete of the Year. The former Mason City standout is headed to Iowa State to continue her basketball career.

Iowa Central’s Talya Sampson was a finalist for the award. She earned first team All-American honors from both the NJCAA and AVCA, helping the Tritons win 31 matches and qualify for the NJCAA Div. II National Tournament.

Starting at $4.94/week.
