Strong wind gusts caused part of a tree to snap off and fall on a parked SUV near 117 N. 13th St. Tuesday night.

Fort Dodge police officers and Fort Dodge firefighters were on scene.

There was at least one other report of a downed tree within city limits.

At one point, three MidAmerican Energy Co. customers were without power in Fort Dodge.

Hundreds of other customers were without power in Humboldt, Dakota City, and Otho, Tuesday night.

According to Geoff Greenwood, a spokesman for MidAmerican, the Humboldt outages were caused by at least one tree taking out power poles.

He said the power went out at 7:35 p.m., affecting more than 600 customers.

About 430 of those customers’ power was restored by 8:55 p.m., he said.

Power was restored to all but about 20 customers by 9:10 p.m. He said restoring their power would require new utility poles.
