Almost $2,000 in copper wiring stolen from Clarion warehouse

Thieves cut a hole in overhead door

CLARION — The Wright County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a large amount of copper wiring was reportedly stolen early Tuesday morning from a warehouse owned by Prairie Energy Cooperative, according to Chief Deputy Jeremy Hogrefe.

Contractors working near the warehouse noticed a hole that appeared to have been cut in an overhead door, according to Steve Jackson, Prairie Energy Cooperative operations coordinator.

Jackson was contacted at about 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The warehouse is located about a mile west of the business’s office, 2099 Iowa Highway 3.

Upon arrival, Jackson said he noticed a substantial amount of copper wiring missing and physical damage to shelving.

“We are still doing a physical count of the inventory we lost,” Jackson said.

Jackson placed a call to the Wright County Sheriff’s Department a short time later, and Hogrefe was sent to that location.

Hogrefe estimated about $1,800 worth of copper was stolen.

The incident remains under investigation by the Wright County Sheriff’s Department.

“We are following all the leads that we have,” Hogrefe said.
