Domino’s to move one block
Council OKs land sales for pizza place, grocery store
Domino’s will apparently be moving one block east of its current Fort Dodge location.
The Fort Dodge City Council on Monday approved a plan to sell some city-owned land at Fifth Avenue South and 16th Street to the pizzeria.
It also voted to sell some other city-owned land at Fifth Avenue South and 19th Street for the construction of a new small grocery store.
Domino’s is currently located at the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue South and South 15th Street.
Camway Inc., of Norwalk, which owns the local Domino’s, offered $35,000 for a vacant lot on the southwest corner of Fifth Avenue South and South 16th Street.
The company is proposing a one-story 2,020-square-foot building, but a larger one may be built if another occupant can be found to share the building with Domino’s.
According to the proposal, construction will start in the spring of 2027 and be completed by the spring of 2028.
The company plans to invest a minimum of $650,000 in the project.
The Fort Dodge Islamic Center, which opened a mosque in the 500 block of South 19th Street last year, offered $35,000 for property just north of its building. It is proposing a one-story, 2,000-square-foot grocery store with a parking lot that would also serve the mosque. The store would also be completed in the spring of 2028.
The council approved both sales with no discussion.
Councilmembers Kim Alstott, Jen Crimmins and Megan Secor were absent from the otherwise unanimous votes.
