City of Fort Dodge considers vehicle leasing option

The Fort Dodge city government may someday lease many vehicles instead of purchasing them.

In a report to the City Council, Assistant City Manager Ryan Maehl wrote that leasing of vehicles is being studied as a way to relieve pressure on the city budget.

Details, such as the types of vehicles that would be leased, are still being worked out. But Maehl wrote that a leasing plan with Enterprise Fleet Management is being considered. He wrote that the lease plan would not cost any more than what is currently budgeted for vehicle purchases.

On Monday, the council OK’d a resolution directing the staff to continue working with Enterprise Fleet Management. Maehl wrote that the resolution does not obligate the city to spend any money or lease any vehicles.

While the consideration of vehicle leases continues, the council did vote Monday to acquire two machines for Fort Dodge Fiber, the municipal broadband utility.

A trailer equipped for splicing fiber optic cables was purchased from inTech Trailers of Nappanee, Indiana, for $33,995.

A used trenching machine was purchased from Pristine Machinery LLC, of Parker, South Dakota, for $33,350.

Starting at $4.62/week.
