Shirbroun becomes Gaels’ HR leader

HAMPTON — For the 30th time in her high school career, St. Edmond’s Faith Shirbroun hit a ball out of the park here on Monday.

This time, it was a record breaking shot.

Shirbroun’s three-run dinger against Hampton-Dumont/CAL in a 12-1 win on Monday night put her atop the charts as the school’s all-time home run leader.

“It’s an honor to be the home run leader,” Shirbroun said. “I’ve had tremendous support from my family, coaches and friends so it just makes it so much more fun when I have so many people cheering me on along the way.

“The team has put in so much work in the offseason, so it’s great to see that it’s paying off this year for everyone.”

The Gaels (19-6) used that and 13 other hits to roll past Hampton-Dumont/CAL (5-10), 12-1.

“We really hit the ball well,” said St. Edmond head coach Bill Shirbroun. “I thought the girls were patient at the plate and we hit the ball hard.

“Faith and all of the girls have put in a lot of hard work in the offseason, so to see it payoff is great to see.”

Three Gaels were perfect at the plate.

Shirbroun was 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs and also a double.

Jade Rock had a double and two singles, along with two RBI and three runs scored.

Rhianye Myers had three hits, including a home run and a double as well and three RBI.

Toryn Helle (16-3) earned the win, allowing only three hits and the one earned run. She struck out eight with one walk.

The Gaels are back in action on Wednesday when they host Webster City at Rogers Park. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.

Starting at $4.62/week.
