Catholic Choral Festival is Wednesday

St. Edmond Catholic School, 2321 Sixth Ave. N., is hosting the Catholic Choral Festival at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the school varsity gym. Participating schools and directors are Carroll Kuemper, directed by Jeff Wicker; Algona Bishop Garrigan, directed by Abigail Mathahs; Sioux City Bishop Heelan, directed by Gage Fenton; LeMars Gehlen Catholic, directed by Gerrit Nieuwendorp; and Fort Dodge Saint Edmond, directed by Melissa Hindt. Admission is $3 per person.

Author Joseph LeValley at Clare Public Library Oct. 13

CLARE — The Clare Public Library invites the communities in the surrounding areas to a special book signing event with author Joseph LeValley from 4 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 13 at the Clare Community Center. LeValley will be signing copies of his newest release, “Murder Suspended,” the seventh book in his popular Tony Harrington mystery series. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres while meeting the author and hearing about his latest work. All are welcome to attend this exciting literary evening. The Clare Public Library will be closed on Oct. 13 to allow staff to host this event.

Fall Fly-In is Oct. 18

Fort Dodge Flight Support is holding its Fall Fly-In from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 18, at the Fort Dodge Regional Airport, 1639 Nelson Ave. The event is open to the public. There will be an all you can eat pancake breakfast with a drink for $10 per person, pilots in command eat free. Plane rides will be $20. Proceeds go to the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight.

FDPL hosting “Gangster in Our Midst: The Untold Story” author talk Monday

The Fort Dodge Public Library, 424 Central Ave., is hosting author Betty Brandt Passick, of Oakdale, Minnesota, at noon Monday. Brandt Passick, who grew up in Fairbank, Iowa, is the author of the award-winning historical novel, “Gangster in Our Midst, Bookkeeper, Lieutenant, and Sometimes Hitman for Al Capone.” She will present a 60-minute program on this Iowa story. Fairbank, Iowa, has the remarkable claim of hosting Alphonse Capone’s bookkeeper, Louie La Cava, for over 60 years. First United Methodist Church rummage sale is Oct. 9, 10 and 11

First United Methodist Church, 127 N. 10th St., is holding a rummage sale from 1 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 11. Enter the church on the west side, steps or elevator. On Oct. 11 only, large items will be half price and a bag will be $4.

Fort Dodge Women’s Connection brunch set for Oct. 14, RSVP requested

Fort Dodge Women’s Connection will meet at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 14, at Tea Thyme, 2021 Sixth Ave. S.
