Help save the Webster County Museum

To the editor: When I was a little girl, my grandpa, Jack Stanberg, would take me to the Webster County Museum in Otho. When I walk into this building I feel at home. A long white dress with rhinestones running down the front, a long white veil so beautiful and profound. White shoes with a few rhinestones on the top. My grandmother’s dress lay in the glass case still in the same condition it was in when she got married. Memories dance around every time I step foot into this building. Rockhounds say thanks for recent support

To the editor: We wish to thank Hans Madsen and The Messenger for the great story prior to our 2019 Gem Mineral and Fossil show. Attendance far surpassed that of recent previous shows and it was one of most successful shows ever. We are already planning next years show and keeping a tradition of more than 50 years alive in our community. In addition our club was recently recognized by the Midwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies as having the greatest growth in membership among all the Midwest clubs. Once again thank you. Webster County Museum needs support

To the editor: I am writing in regards to the Webster County Museum located in Otho. I was unable to attend the meeting at the VFW when Phyllis Stewart was asking for suggestions on what to do with the museum because of the leaking roof. This museum does not receive county funding and relies on private donations, as a nonprofit. My husband and I have visited the museum and were amazed at all the Webster County items as well as the items from our pasts on display. Friends of St. Edmond Ball a success

To the editor: As co-chairs of the 36th Friends of St. Edmond Ball we would like to send a tremendous thank you to the community for making the 2019 ball a record setting one. Our theme this year was “Together We Can” and together we did! With your help and support we were able to raise $315,000 net of expenses. The Ball is the school’s main fundraiser each year. These funds have had an enormous impact on St. Edmond’s ability to remain committed to the mission of providing the highest quality education in a faith based and service focused environment. Let’s make the road safe for motorcycles

To the editor: April has been designated as Motor Awareness Month. May is Motorcycle Awareness Month. These two things go very much hand in hand. Spring is upon us and motorcycles will be out and about. Motorists, having put up with a very cold and snowy winter, are also anxious to be out and about enjoying the nice weather. Unfortunately, too often this results in distracted driving and someone gets hurt or killed. Veterans event was a success

To the editor: On April 11, the Webster County Veterans Affair Commission held two sessions for veterans, spouses and widows, to give them valuable information and current details concerning Veterans Administration benefits for which they may be eligible. We had an excellent turnout, with over 80 people attending either the afternoon or evening session. We were very pleased with the number of attendees and the time they devoted to being there, so that we could talk with them and answer questions, providing one-on-one assistance in many cases.
