Postal Employees Scholarship offered

The Postal Employees Scholarship Fund is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a qualified high school senior. Applicant must be a credit union member and related to a current or retired US postal employee. Applications and information is available by contacting Mary Harvey at 571-3801 or email 78mtharvey@gmail.com. Deadline to submit is March 31.

Humboldt resident named to Simpson Dean’s List

INDIANOLA — Ryan Courtney, of Humboldt, was named to the 2018 fall semester Dean’s List at Simpson College. Students named to the Dean’s List earned a 3.70-3.99 GPA. He is the son of Kathleen Courtney.

FDCSD to host paraeducator career fair

The Fort Dodge Community School District will host a paraeducator career fair from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Central Administration Building, 104 S. 17th St. Onsite interviews will be held for paraeducators at the high school, middle school, elementary schools and early learning center. “We had excellent turnout at our paraeducator career fair in August,” said Robert Hughes, FDCSD assistant superintendent. “We look forward to securing more top notch candidates to support our kids during this event in January.” Candidates should complete an ...

Gordon to study aviation at Iowa Lakes

Boston Gordon, a senior at Fort Dodge Senior High, has been accepted into the aviation/airport management program for the fall 2019 semester at Iowa Lakes Community College. Aviation/airport management students at Iowa Lakes receive four levels of flight certification in two years. They receive a private pilot’s license, commercial pilot’s license, certified flight instructors ratings, and have instrument ratings. Iowa Lakes is the first college in Iowa to operate a state-of-the-art Cirrus SR20 airplane. Gordon is the son of Matt and Kim Gordon, of Fort Dodge.

FDCS Foundation names grant recipients

The Fort Dodge Community Schools Foundation voted recently to grant more than $27,000 to the Fort Dodge Community School District for music instruments, sensory room equipment, an outdoor classroom, elementary math and more. “Our generous donors allowed the Foundation to fund some amazing things for classrooms, and we are all excited to see them implemented in our schools,” said FDCS Foundation Board President Andrea DeJong.
