August community blood drives begin Thursday

Community blood centers, like LifeServe Blood Center, collect approximately 60 percent of the nation’s blood supply. Annually, it takes thousands of generous volunteer donors to support local hospital patients through blood donation. Youth trap shoot is Aug. 9

Webster County Conservation is holding a youth trap shoot from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 9 at the Iowa Central Community College trap range, 2091 Richmill Road. The shoot is for ages 12 through 18. Halverson 50th birthday bash and cancer benefit Aug. 3

Shane Halverson’s 50th birthday bash and cancer benefit is 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 3 at Rides Bar and Grill Banquet Center, 723 S. 31st St. There will be a freewill donation meal of pork loin, sides and dessert, a silent auction ending at 7:30 p.m. and music. Halverson was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2017, which has returned for a third time as stage 4, including both lungs. Halverson is married with five children. FD Symphony free concert Aug. 10
