Webster City bids farewell to 138 graduates
Families accept diplomas for 2 students who remain in intensive care in DM
Friends, family, and faculty filled the Webster City High School Gymnasium Sunday afternoon to celebrate new beginnings for the Class of 2017.
The district presented 138 diplomas.
Two diplomas were presented to the family members of two seniors who were unable to be at Sunday’s event.
Students Nicole Sweazey and Nathan Reed were involved in a car accident last Sunday. Both were transported to Des Moines and are currently in intensive care and recovery.
Senior class president Kyle Porter welcomed attendees to the event.
Senior class speakers Josie Asklund and Tyler Berg addressed students, faculty, friends and family members with encouragement and wit.
The Purple and Gold Singers, under the direction of Andrew Wotherspoon, provided a rousing rendition of Lantz’ “Closer to the Flame.”
The senior choral members also performed “100 Years” by Ondrasik.
The concert band, under the direction of Rachel Daum, performed “Encanto” by Robert W. Smith.
Class colors were purple and gold. This year’s group of graduates chose the yellow rose for their class flower.
The class motto was a quote from the ever-relevant Dr. Seuss: “Sometimes you never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”
