4 nabbed in Ames drive-by shooting

Arrests made in Fort Dodge

Four men have been arrested in Fort Dodge in connection with a drive-by shooting that injured three people near Iowa State University’s campus in Ames early Sunday morning, according to a news release from the Ames Police Department.

Terrion Maxfield, 20, and Desmon R. Siner, 19, both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, have been charged with attempted murder, a class B felony.

Maxfield and Siner were located at UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

Later, during the ongoing investigation, Charles Smith, 20, and Traveion D. Henry, 21, also of Milwaukee, were arrested and charged with attempted murder, aiding and abetting, a class B felony, the Ames Police Department reported.

All four men were located in Fort Dodge, according to Ames Police.

The shooting in Ames occurred a short time after 1:30 a.m., Ames Police reported.

Officers with the Ames Police Department had responded to a call regarding a fight near the area of Chamberlain Street and Stanton Avenue in Ames’ Campustown.

After arriving on scene, groups involved in the fight were separated, and officers continued to investigate that incident.

While on scene, a red car reportedly stopped in the 200 block of Welch Avenue and fired shots into the crowd from the vehicle, reported Ames Police.

Two Ames officers, who were on foot in the immediate area, responded by opening fire into the suspects’ vehicle, according to Ames police.

At that point, the suspects stopped shooting and fled northbound on Welch Avenue and then west on Lincoln Way, Ames police said.

Three victims were treated for gunshot wounds at the scene, Ames police reported.

One was transported to a hospital in Des Moines. The other two victims were transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

The victims’ injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening, according to Ames police.

The names of the victims were not available as of Sunday night.

After the suspects fled, the Fort Dodge Police Department was informed that the suspects may be headed to Iowa Central Community College, according to Fort Dodge police reports.

Maxfield and Siner were later located at UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge at about 2:39 a.m., Fort Dodge police reported.

The two men had sustained gunshot wounds, according to Fort Dodge police.

Maxfield and Siner were later released from Trinity Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and transported to the Webster County Jail, Fort Dodge police reported.

The vehicle driven by the suspects, Maxfield and Siner, was located at about 2:51 a.m. at Budget Host Inn, 116 Kenyon Road W., according to Fort Dodge Police reports. The vehicle was reportedly parked and unoccupied.

“During subsequent investigation into the incident, officers determined that additional suspects that were involved had entered Iowa Central dorms East Tower and were presently there at that time,” Fort Dodge Police said.

Officers from multiple agencies assisted in clearing all six floors of the building.

The rooms were cleared without incident, Fort Dodge police reported.

Smith and Henry were also transported to the Webster County Jail.

The Ames Police Department, Fort Dodge Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Iowa Department of Transportation, Webster County sheriff’s office, and Fort Dodge Fire Department assisted.
