Corey Lombard serves Webster County Cattlemen’s President Bruce Long a hamburger at Rides Bar & Grill, in Fort Dodge. The restaurant recently made the top 10 list in the Iowa’s Best Burger contest.

For the fourth time in five years, Rides Bar & Grill, of Fort Dodge, has made the top 10 best burger in the 2018 Iowa’s Best Burger contest and is now in the running for the best burger in Iowa.

Each year the Iowa Beef Industry Council and the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association seek nominations for Iowa’s Best Burger and most recently released the top 10 list out of more than 9,000 nominated restaurants.

So, what makes a top 10 burger?

“Quality of beef and I use an old cast iron flat top grill and lightly season the beef,” said Corey Lombard, owner of Rides Bar & Grill.

Lombard said he gets all of the beef he serves at his restaurant from Sawyer’s Meats of Iowa Inc., also located in Fort Dodge.

Those orders for the fresh, 80/20 hamburger patties practically double each time Rides Bar & Grill has made the top 10 list.

“I have seen a rise in 400 in a week upwards to 700 or 800 after these announcements,” he said.

Have a good burger and people will travel.

Lombard said he has had people from over 100 miles away come for one of his burgers that are available in a wide range of choices for toppings ranging from peanut butter to chili –all named after some of Lombard’s favorite “rides” including a ’64 Impala, Goldwing, and a Deuce Coupe.
