Iowa Select Farms recently opened two new warehouses to support the growth of their livestock farms.

With one located in Osceola, and the second to officially open this week in Rockwell City, the new warehouses are a key strategy to strengthening the infrastructure of the company and better support the caretakers and farms throughout the region.

Both warehouses will improve Iowa Select Farms’ supply chain, allow for bulk purchase opportunities and improve inventory management.

Iowa Select Farms uses a web-based internal inventory management system [Tools] to collect the supply orders submitted from farm computers by the farm manager. Each order is reviewed and approved by a production leader and the farm’s veterinarian and then auto assigns the order to the farm’s regional warehouse where it is fulfilled and delivered.

Iowa Select Farms has a central distribution center located in Iowa Falls, and regional warehouses located in Osage, Pocahontas, Rockwell City, Afton and Osceola.

Osceola warehouse is managed by Monte McIntire, manager, and Mike McCarthy, assistant manager.

The Rockwell City warehouse is managed by Kim Miller, manager, and Ken Johnson, assistant.

Supplies in the warehouse are staged according to biosecurity and ease of access. A barcoding system will eventually track and monitor supply levels of all inventory.

All Iowa Select Farms warehouses, including conference areas, are biosecure areas and are not open to the public.

All warehouses have heightened biosecurity protocols, including the use of bench entry, foot covers, hand sanitizer and established clean/dirty lines for both people and supplies entering and exiting the warehouses.

Additionally, the conference centers built into both warehouses will provide a central location for company onboarding, ongoing employee training and meetings.

According to Iowa State University Economist Dermot Hayes, Iowa Select Farms is now responsible for nearly 11,000 jobs, $32 million in annual state taxes, and $1.5 billion in annual economic output to the state of Iowa.

Located on the east side of Rockwell City, the new warehouse will improve Iowa Select Farms’ supply chain, allow for bulk purchase opportunities and improve inventory management in support of nearly 300 farms across northwest Iowa.

Additionally, the conference center will provide a central location for onboarding, ongoing employee training and meetings.
