Road victory for Iowa Central women at Iowa Western
COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Iowa Central women continued their winning ways with a 69-61 victory over Iowa Western here on Saturday.
Winners of three in a row, the Tritons (16-5 overall, 9-4 in the ICCAC) used a 21-9 run in the fourth to secure the win on the road.
Shakani Murray scored 17 points, Trista Ohlmeier had 16 points with 11 rebounds, Ashlin Jacobsen scored 15 and Amelia Echternkamp had 10 off the bench.
Murray added eight rebounds, five assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
Iowa Central erased a four-point deficit entering the final 10 minutes. Ohlmeier came alive in the fourth, scoring eight of her 16 during the stretch. Jacobsen, Echternkamp and Izzy Bassett all knocked down a 3-pointer each as well.
“I thought we did a great job managing the game,” ICCC head coach Graham McFall said. “Every run Iowa Western made, we answered. We had great balance scoring the ball and executed at a high level offensively in a hard-fought road win.”
For the Reivers (12-7, 9-4), Sydney Donaldson had 19 and Kailynne Small added 10. The Tritons held them to 29 percent shooting from the field in the fourth and forced five turnovers.
Iowa Central received 51 points off the bench and were plus-eight on points in the paint and led 13-10 on points off turnovers.
Up next for the Tritons will be a return home to host Ellsworth on Wednesday.
