GOWRIE — Bryce Harrison sent the Southeast Valley crowd into a frenzy on Friday night.
The junior ended a two-overtime thriller with a buzzer beater to give the Jaguars (10-1 overall) a 62-60 victory over Sioux Central (8-2).
“Bryce got the ball with 2.6 seconds left and it left his hand with two seconds left,” said 16-year veteran coach Kyle Johnson, a Fort Dodge Senior High graduate. “He shot about an eight-foot jumper and the clock was at zeroes by the time the ball hit the floor.”
The win puts the Jaguars in the driver’s seat for the Twin Lakes Conference title.
It was a back-and-forth game all night as the score was tied at halftime. The Rebels went up six at the end of third (43-37). The two teams were tied at the end of regulation (48-48) and the first overtime (55-55).
“This was a huge win for us,” Johnson said. “They’re senior-dominated and they beat us pretty good last year.
“We have a lot of juniors, so it was good to get the victory.”
Harrison and senior Cornell Lowery had 16 points each. Lowery fouled out with about three minutes left in the second overtime.
The home crowd helped fuel Southeast Valley in clutch moments.
“I’ve been here 16 years and that’s the loudest I’ve heard this gym,” Johnson said. “Our guys stayed mentally strong and grinded it out.
“They played good defense and pressed us.”
Ian Brunner (13) and Logan Jaeschke (12) also reached double figures for SV.
Owen Mills paced the Rebels with 26 points. Koen Glover and Jack Christian had 11 each.
