Another road win for Gael boys
HAMPTON — The St. Edmond boys secured a 59-38 road win in the North Central Conference here Friday night over Hampton-Dumont/CAL.
The Gaels (4-0 overall, 4-0 in the NCC) have won all four games this season by at least 20 points, and have now won three in a row over the Bulldogs (2-3, 1-2) since dropping five straight from 2022-24.
Hunter Horn scored 31 points to lead the way. Senior classmate Grant Galles added 13.
“We got a lot of really good minutes from guys off the bench,” SEHS head coach Adolph Kochendorfer said. “Hunter did a great job and played a great all-around game. I thought Jakob did a nice job rebounding, Grant got to the rim and knocked down a couple 3-pointers, and Jack played great defense on their point guard.”
Ty Mericle added seven points in the victory, Carson Bargfrede six and Jakob Koopman two.
The Gaels used a 15-6 run in the third to turn a seven-point advantage into a 16-point lead going to the fourth.
“I thought we did a nice job of staying focused on this game,” Kochendorfer said. “With a big one coming up, we didn’t overlook Hampton-Dumont/CAL and I thought we played well overall.”
St. Edmond will close out the 2025 part of its schedule on Saturday in the Hardwood Classic at Iowa Central vs. defending Class 1A state champion Madrid. The Tigers knocked the Gaels out in the semifinals last season.
