Supervisors approve speed limit change

Paving project approved on 230th Street

The Webster County Board of Supervisors approved updating speed limits on 390th Street and Union Avenue in southern Webster County Tuesday.

According to Webster County Engineer Jamie Johll, the speed limits will be lowered to 45 and 35 miles per hour.

“This coincides with the paving project that we’re currently doing,” said Johll of the 1.6 miles of paving being done near Hidden Acres Christian Center.

“There’s a lot of turning traffic here,” he added. “This project should be done on Thursday so we’ll be getting signs up and striping done. This was a good time to make this change to get people slowed down.”

The supervisors also approved plans for a paving project on 230th Street east of U.S. Highway 169. According to Johll, this is a short stretch of pavement from the entrance of the Iowa Department of Transportation shed to the intersection of South River Road.

“We’re doing this because Georgia-Pacific is re-opening their south quarry and I let them know that they would need to do dust control frequently,” said Johll. “In lieu of doing that, they will pay us to pave the road and it will be a county project.”

According to Supervisor Bob Thode, the projected date for the new daycare center at 407 Kenyon Road to open is June 1.

Webster County Auditor Shauna Abrams also reminded community members that absentee voting is now open in the Auditor’s Office in the Webster County Courthouse.

Starting at $4.94/week.
