Dodgers honor seniors in shutout

The Fort Dodge girls tennis team kicked off the week with a convincing 11-0 victory over Des Moines Hoover here Tuesday evening.

Manuela Rodriguez, Madge Hensley, Mia Carpenter, Grace Rivera, Teagan Loots and Brooklyn Kaloupek swept singles for the Dodgers.

Rodriguez, Rivera and Kaloupek did not drop a game, as Hensley won 6-0, 6-1, and both Carpenter and Loots dropped just three games each.

In doubles, Rodriguez and Carpenter cruised, 6-0, 6-0, as did Leah Myer and Kaloupek. Rivera and Hensley, Evah Nostrom and Izzy Lara, and Taylor Core and Lily Sheeder all picked up wins.

“All around, it was a solid effort from all the girls that played,” FDSH head coach Julie Astor said. “I moved some doubles teams around a little to get some varsity experience and have some just play with different partners. Izzy Lara picked up a nice win in her varsity debut playing No. 4 doubles with Evah.

“Teagan had double-duty, as right after he singles victory she jumped into the pool for a swim meet.”

Fort Dodge honored its lone seniors, Rodriguez and Hensley, prior to the meet.

“I was happy to see them earn a victorn on their home court one last time,” Astor said. “Those two have meant so much to the program the past few years, as they are tremendous leaders and role models.”

The Dodgers return to action on Thursday at Des Moines Lincoln.
