Wildcats ride big inning

Needing something to happen, the West Lyon softball team took matters into their own hands.

The Wildcats plated five runs in the sixth on their way to a 9-5 victory over Louisa-Muscatine at Rogers Park Wednesday evening in the Class 2A semifinals.

With the win, West Lyon (30-1 overall) earned a spot in the finals Friday night on Channel Seeds Field to play defending champion Van Meter at 5 p.m.

Making a return to state after 21 years, the Wildcats once again showed the kind of perseverance that has helped them to a one-loss season. In the quarterfinals, they survived vs. Cascade, winning 10-8.

Reese Kramer had three hits and scored twice while Ella Langenhorst, Leah Blauwet and Katelyn Berentschot each had two hits. Belah Kramer, Reese Kramer and Braylyn Childress all scored twice each while Childress had a home run.

Louisa-Muscatine (30-7) will now play West Fork for third place on Friday at 3:30 p.m. back here on Iowa Central Field. Keely Williams had three hits while Kiki Enriquez drove in two. Hannah Kissell had a home run.
