Eagle Grove senior hits walk-off HR to advance

EAGLE GROVE — A walk-off home run by senior shortstop Addyson Jeske gave the Eagle Grove softball team a thrilling 11-10 Class 3A regional semifinal victory over Humboldt on Saturday night.

Jeske hit an 0-2, two-out pitch over the fence and sent the home crowd into a frenzy for the Eagles (17-10 overall), who advance to face second-ranked Williamsburg (32-7) for a state tournament berth on the road Tuesday at 7 p.m. It was the third homer of the year for Jeske, who is now batting .522 on the season.

The long ball ended a wild, back-and-forth game. Eagle Grove led 2-0 early, and after the Wildcats (15-14) tied it at 2 in the second inning, the Eagles responded with a five-run third.

Humboldt reeled off seven straight runs over the next three frames to go up 9-7. The Eagles tied it in the bottom of the sixth, and the Wildcats took their final lead at 10-9 in the top of the seventh before Jeske’s heroics.

Lily Locke was 3-for-4 for Eagle Grove, as was Chloe Schultz. Mya Morgan and Ellie Lenning both drove in a pair.

Jeske scored three times and drove in three.

Morgan was the winning pitcher, working a complete game with six strikeouts. She walked two and gave up four earned runs.

Abby Armitage, Ava Newton and Jazzie Dodd all had two hits for Humboldt. Elsie Hubbell and Newton doubled.

Armitage, Hubbell and Sadie Hubbell all scored twice. Jazzie Dodd drove in a pair.
