Fort Dodge heads to Mason City for qualifier

MASON CITY — The biggest single day in Iowa high school track and field is set, as teams compete in state-qualifying meets.

Fort Dodge will head to Mason City on Thursday for a Class 4A qualifier beginning at 4 p.m. with the field events. Running events hit the track 45 minutes later.

Winners of each event and the runner-up automatically qualify for Des Moines and the state meet, which is May 22-24 in Des Moines. From there, the field will be completed with the next 12 best efforts from the qualifying sites around the state.

Joining the Dodgers will be Ames, Cedar Falls, Indianola, Mason City, Norwalk, Waterloo East and Waterloo West.

Ky’Mariana Mosley enters ranked fifth in the shot put and seventh in the discus to lead the Fort Dodge girls. The shuttle hurdle of Adyson Friesth, Charlotte DeJong, LJ Maehl and Maeleena Meyer has clocked the fifth-fastest time among SQM schools in Mason City.

The 4×200, 4×400 and distance medley are all seeded sixth. Aneliese Schurr, Hope Alstott, Ashlyn Wills and Ava Wessels have ran the fastest 4×200; Maehl, Brooklyn Nelson, Teryn Rippentrop and Wessels the best 4×400; and Calliegh Zimmermann, Kenzie Halverson, Rippentrop and Linnie Pratt the fastest distance medley.

For the Dodger boys, the sprint medley and distance medley relays are both seeded sixth among SQM teams to date. Noah Daniel is 10th in the 200.

Kyree Rochon, Daniel, Sam Moser and Hunter Richardson comprise the fastest sprint medley mark thus far, while Rochon, Tytrell Mosley, Jayce Point and Cael Hansen have the team’s best distance medley.

Daniel ran in the 100 and 200 prelims last year at state, placing 17th and 19th, respectively. Dalton Eckley also qualified in the high jump a season ago.
