Pair of shutouts for FDSH
WATERLOO — Lucy Porter had a four-inning no-hitter and the third-ranked (Class 4A) Fort Dodge softball team swept Waterloo East here Tuesday night.
Scores were 15-0 and 11-0 in five.
After scoring a run in the first, the Dodgers broke things open, plating six in the second and four in both the third and fourth of the opener.
That would be more than enough support for Porter, as the junior struck out 10 and issued just one walk.
Ellie Doster had two doubles and drove in three runs, Hope Alstott was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, two RBI and five steals, and Calliegh Zimmermann scored three runs on three walks with three steals.
Ava Wessels stole five bases. Meah McCaleb swiped two while scoring twice.
The scoring continued for Fort Dodge in the nightcap, as they plated three in the first and five more in the second. Alstott was 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs and four steals while Zimmermann scored twice and stole three more bases.
Wessels had three steals and McCaleb, Porter and Kam Gochee each swiped two. Aubrey Alstott earned the win, striking out seven with four hits allowed.
Fort Dodge (24-8 overall) hosts No. 14 (5A) Ames on Thursday night at Rogers Park at 5 p.m. With the Little Cyclones splitting vs. Mason City on Monday, the Dodgers can claim the title outright with a sweep.
