Tritons both out in front at home invite

The Iowa Central golf team took advantage of ideal spring conditions here Friday to begin their home invitational at the Fort Dodge Country Club.

Following the first round, Colby Ramsdale is tied for the overnight lead as the Triton men sit three shots ahead of Morningside. The ICCC women, meanwhile, are four shots ahead of Waldorf with Ivanna Becerra-Diaz holding the individual lead.

“Really happy with how the men and women played,” ICCC head coach Kris Graewin said. “Colby Ramsdale has really come into his own this year and been a leader for us. I’m looking forward to a great round from him Saturday.

“Ivanna has been phenomenal for us all year. She’d tell you that she didn’t play her best but she endured a long round and is looking forward to playing well (Saturday). We’ve got an extremely competitive field on the men and women’s side so for us to be leading it’s a testament to the athletes and the hard work they’ve put in this spring.”

Two shots back of Ramsdale is Bailey Doe, as he is fourth overall. Nico Booyens is seventh after a round of 74 with Ben Christy and Kai Hielckert each finishing with 80s.

Ramsdale had three birdies and 14 pars including par on each of the first eight holes on the front-nine.

Doe recorded four birdies with Booyens having three and Hielckert two.

Former Bishop Garrigan standout Andrew Arndorfer is tied for seventh with a 74 for Briar Cliff, who is third overall.

Becerra-Diaz shot a 78 with Liv Tait firing a 82 to sit in fourth. Jenna Kramer (85), Olivia Eckert (88) and Brooklyn Backoff (96) rounded out the Triton lineup.

Ethan Spier led the Iowa Central B team with a 79 as they are 11th overall.

The final 18 holes will be played Saturday.
