The Fort Dodge girls nearly came up with their first win of the season, but Des Moines East held on for a 2-1 victory inside Dodger Stadium on Monday.

The Dodgers (0-7 overall) and Scarlets (2-9) fought to a 0-0 first half score on senior night.

“We are finally starting to slow down and not just kick and run,” said Fort Dodge head coach G Myers. “We have been talking about when you face tough teams and then a different level team, you can’t just turn it on.

“We just have to keep improving.”

Des Moines East got on the board first in the second half with 37 minutes left. Nili Garcia Sierra put the Scarlets up 1-0.

Fort Dodge got on the board on a break away Addison Lentsch goal on an assist from senior Silvia Heldorfer with 32:17 left.

East earned the final goal of the contest with 24:48 left on a kick from Jacqueline Riveros-Ortiz.

Fort Dodge had 10 shots on goal and senior keeper Camden Doster had six saves.

The Dodgers honored seniors Heldorfer, Doster, Kira Kollbaum, Madelyn Lee and senior foreign exchange students Natia Tsiteladze and Lenja Szarbinowski.

“Cam, Silvia and Maddie have played all four years,” Myers said. “They have brought so much to the team. This season, Silvia and Maddie have welcomed everyone, including their little sisters, to the team. Kira has a great personality and I admire her for coming into a new team in her senior year and just going with the flow. She is setting the way for others to follow their passion.

“Our foreign exchange students bring so much extra personality to the team. We get to learn and share new things with them.”

The Dodger junior varsity picked up a 3-1 victory behind a hat-trick from Szarbinowski.

Fort Dodge is back in action on Tuesday when they host Des Moines Hoover in a varsity only action. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. inside Dodger Stadium.
