Dodgers face Urbandale, Marshalltown

Fort Dodge has two varsity doubleheaders this week, as the Dodgers visit Urbandale on Monday before hosting Marshalltown on Friday.

The girls will play at 6:15 p.m. both nights, with the boys to follow.

The FDSH boys earned a 68-66 home win over Waterloo East last Friday, improving to 4-4 in the new year. Junior Drake Warland cleared the 20-point mark for the second time in a week with a 23-point performance in the victory. Classmates Cade Westerhoff (16 points), Ty Adams (13) and Carter Woodruff (9) followed.

The J-Hawks are 5-11 overall, with senior Grant Uecker (16.5 points) and senior Brevin Phillips (13.9) leading the way. Phillips is also grabbing 6.6 rebounds per contest.

Urbandale defeated Des Moines Lincoln on Friday, 66-42. The J-Hawks also handled Southeast Polk last week, 79-66.

The Urbandale girls are 3-14, but are coming off a win over Lincoln. Senior Taylor Mulligan (5.6 points) and senior Bri Tigges (5.5) are the J-Hawks’ top scorers.

The Dodger girls were caught from behind versus Waterloo East, 49-41. Sophomore LJ Maehl led FDSH with 16 points, with classmate Dakota Pommer contributing nine.

The Marshalltown boys are 6-8, with Kyle Smith (14.4 points) and senior Treshaun Brooks (10.0) serving as the top offensive players. Smith also grabs nearly seven rebounds a night.

The Bobcats defeated the Dodgers at The Roundhouse last month, 62-45. Westerhoff had 24 points for Fort Dodge in the setback.

The Marshalltown girls are 5-10. Sophomore Kinsley Bowie (5.9) and freshman Frankie Long (5.2) lead the squad offensively. Junior Ellie Hughes (5.7) is the top rebounder.

The FDSH girls routed the Bobcats last month in Marshalltown, 59-34. Maehl finished with 19 points and nine rebounds. Meah McCaleb added 17, but McCaleb is now out for the season with a lower leg injury.
