St. Edmond slated for busy week on the mat

ALLEMAN — The St. Edmond wrestling team gets their first taste of dual action here Tuesday night to begin a busy stretch.

The Gaels will square off with North Polk and Woodward-Granger in a triangular starting at 5:30 p.m.

Since the beginning of the month, St. Edmond has sent wrestlers to both Manson for the Doug Wood Invitational and Emmetsburg for the Bob Roethler Invitational.

Zach Rossmanith added a bronze final at 190 pounds to his silver captured in Manson, going 4-1 with three falls in Emmetsburg. The senior is now 7-2 on the season to lead the team.

Sam Myer and Adam Walker were both sixth at the most recent tournament, winning six matched combined. Five of those six victories came via fall.

North Polk (5-1 overall) has scored dual wins over Adel-ADM and Clarke while falling to Bondurant-Farrar. They also went 3-0 at the Knoxville Duals with victories over Fairfield, Knoxville and Nevada.

Woodward-Granger (7-2) owns dual triumphs vs. Gilbert, Colfax-Mingo, Ogden and Perry, while also putting together a 3-0 mark at the Ogden Duals with wins over North Butler-Clarksville, Iowa City Regina and East Sac County.

St. Edmond is also slated for action on Thursday when they head to Humboldt to meet the Wildcats and Hampton-Dumont/CAL in North Central Conference duals before competing Saturday at the Carroll Invitational.

Humboldt (3-1, 0-1 in league) is coming off a victory as a team at the Dan Christensen Invitational. They dropped a 38-36 decision to Algona in the conference opener last week.

Hampton-Dumont/CAL (3-0, 2-0) owns NCC wins over both Clarion-Goldfield/Dows and Webster City, and won the team title at the Bob Roethler Invitational.

The field for the Carroll Invitational will include the Gaels, Manson Northwest Webster, Pocahontas Area, Anita-CAM, Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, Denison-Schleswig, Greene County, Carroll Kuemper, Storm Lake, Westwood and the host Tigers.
